This is not a passion that I chose, rather it was forced on me.

Haemotology

I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia in early February 2023, and my family and I have been battling the disease since then. Model this page on Estorick.I write about haemotology for two reasons:

To help me deal with the disease. Documentation is the first step to control.

Hopefully to help others. Presenting my experience can perhaps serve as a case study that other people who are,G-d forbid, in the same situation, can relate to.

Almost from the moment of diagnosis, I wanted to know more. What are these strange forces that have taken control of my bloodstream? What are these blood count values that the doctors and nurses so regularly and urgently refer to? What is being measured when a bone marrow biopsy is being performed. As I learnt more, my desire for more information grew. I started grilling the doctors about the processes that induce the leukaemia. How does the disease start? What are the underlying causes? How does the disease progress, and what are the drugs that deal with it? What is a genetic defect and what is its role in generating the disease. What are the treatments available to me and how do they work?I tried to write this information down, in blog posts that would make sense to family and friends. Writing helps me to manage my emotions and gives me a strange sense of control. It also helps me hone in on the right questions to ask the doctors. To read more, simply click here, or click the button below.

Passion for learning about haemotology. This passion was induced by necessity, not by choice.
